Remotasks Review – Is It Legit or Scam?

On daily basis, i would usually search for new work from home opportunities which allows me to earn on the side – kinda like a side hustle. Just yesterday night, I came across another site which is slightly different – not the usual answering surveys or click on advertisements. I would say Remotasks.com  is slightly different in that sense as you get paid for completing simple tasks such as tag images, transcribe audio, moderate content and many more. Read on if you’re interested to find out more on how this site can help you reach a step closer to your goals!

What is Remotasks.com?

Remotask is a pay-per-task site which is quite similar to Fiverr, Amazon Mechanical Turk and Clickworker. On this site, in order to earn, you complete tasks ranging from image annotation, categorization, OCR/Image transcription to comparison, audio transcription and data collection. The tasks are quite simple and easy to complete and depending on each task, it may take from 10 minutes to an hour. However, to start earning, you would need to go through training, which is also provided on the site. This site is started by Scale.AI and the company is based at 398 11th St. San Francisco, CA 94103. Scale.AI is a company that into accelerating the development of AI.

How do I join Remotasks?

Hold your horses..! Before you can start earning, you would need to first go to the website and click on sign-up. You’ll be brought to the sign-up page. All you need to do is click “Sign up with Facebook” and click to agree on terms of service. Once you have signed up, the first thing you would need to do is complete the training in the Remotask University before the tasks are unlocked for your to complete. There are many different trainings that you can complete, and each completed training and exams will unlock the task within that specific area. You are allowed to take each exam three times, so don’t worry if you make a few mistakes the first time. At the time of this review – I’m not able to login to Remotasks using Facebook and my Anti-virus has flagged up that the Facebook login API is infected with malware. 

How do I start earning?

As mentioned before, this is a pay-per-task micro job site. Therefore, you’re paid per accepted task, meaning once you have completed the task, it will be reviewed and if the task is accepted – you get paid!. The amount that you get paid will varies depending on the task complexity and payout is made via PayPal every Friday. So, you need to need to also ensure that you have a valid PayPal account and that you have updated your PayPal email in your account before Monday 12:00 AM UTC to be eligible to receive payout the following Friday.

Do I need to pay to use Remotask?

You definitely don’t need to pay to use this platform. Membership is free as the tasks you perform here is actually helping the company is potentially helping them in creating self-driving vehicles as the company’s biggest market is the self-driving car space.

What is Remotask University? I have to study?

Remotask University is basically the place where you learn how to perform each tasks and also take the exam (Told ya above). Again, you don’t need to pay to attend the Remotask University or the training. In addition to the university, if you’d like, you can even sign up for an in-person boot camp. The in-person training is a training session which takes 10 days and you will be trained on different LiDAR scenarios. After this training, you can tend complete these tasks properly from the comfort of your home. However, do not, it is not mandatory to sign up for in-person boot camp. Just learning online on your own is just fine. That’s what I did anyway as well.

What are the tasks available on Remotasks?

• Categorization : Categorizing images on specific keywords that they belong to.
• Image Annotation : Drawing shapes around different objects in an image to help determine what’s the object
• Image transcription : Transcribing important content from the image.
• Date collection : Doing research on the internet and collecting information.
• Audio transcription : Transcribing voice files to text for people to read.

Do I need any special equipment or work a fixed hour?

Nope. You will just need your own laptop or desktop with at least 4GB of RAM as most of the task has graphics/images on it. The best thing about such online micro job sites are you can choose your own hour. You don’t need to face a ‘Boss’, afterall, you’re your own boss so you dictate your own working hours. Of course, if you wish to earn more, it is recommended to put in more hours and complete as many tasks as possible.

How do I withdraw my earnings?

This site only has one payment option which is PayPal. To withdraw your earnings, you need to go to Dashboard > Account Settings and enter your PayPal email and country name. Make sure to have this entered before Monday, in order to get paid the following Friday as payment is made weekly on Fridays and the minimum payout threshold is $5 (PayPal charges 2% of the transaction fee).

Conclusion

After signing up and doing research on this site, I would say this site is a legit and genuine company. In my view, although the tasks seems simple enough, going through the training takes time, not to mention I found that the site seems to have some errors in it – as in even though I’ve completed one training and moved on the next training, the link to the next training doesn’t work or it keeps loading the same page. Not sure if this is an error from my end though. Tasks pays out $1 to $2.5 per hour, provided you have completed it properly without any error and it was accepted. Else, you don’t get paid. Generally, Remotasks is a good way to make money working from your home and it legitimately pays you on time. However, the payout rates are quite low when you compare it to real world job – but hey, you wanna be your own boss right?
